Download a map area on your device so you can find and view sites without an internet connection. Ideal for fieldwork in remote or low-connectivity areas; download your work zone while on Wi-Fi or mobile internet, then navigate freely offline.
How it works
✓ While connected to a strong network, zoom the map to the area you plan to visit, then save it as an offline region. The app stores both the map tiles and the site data on your device. You can then access sites, search by name or ID, and navigate the map, even with no signal.
What gets saved
Visible sites › water points, schools, health facilities, and other assets; and the map tile layer (Roads). Sites refresh each time you sync; map tiles stay stored until you delete the region.
Saves all sites currently visible in your map view. These are refreshed automatically every time you synchronize the app, keeping site data current. Sites remain until you remove the region in Settings › Offline Regions.
Download map tiles
Saves the Roads map layer as image tiles, so the map renders without an internet connection. Tiles are kept until you manually delete the region; they do not auto-update on sync.
Coverage scope
For the current map view
Downloads exactly what is visible on your screen at the current zoom level. Best when you already know the specific area to visit.
For an administrative region
Select a named administrative boundary (district, sub-county, etc.) instead of a custom viewport. Useful for teams assigned to a defined geographic zone.
Tap the Offline Regions tab at the top. All saved regions are listed under Current Offline Regions with their storage size.
Delete the region
Tap the bin icon on the right side of the region you want to remove.
Confirm
A prompt will ask you to confirm the deletion. Tap OK. The region and its cached tiles are permanently removed from your device.
⚠Deleting a region removes the stored map tiles and site data permanently. If you need them again, you will need to re-download while connected to a network
Site data refreshes each time you sync the app while connected. Map tiles do not auto-update; they remain downloaded until you delete the region.
Can I have more than one offline region?
Yes. You can create multiple named regions for different areas. Each region is listed separately in Settings › Offline Regions and can be deleted individually.
How much storage do offline regions use?
The download dialog shows an estimated size before you confirm. A typical district-level area with Road tiles uses around 1–5 MB. The actual size shown in Settings may differ slightly.
Will I be able to add or edit sites while offline?
Yes. Data collection forms work offline. Any changes you make are queued and uploaded the next time you sync with a connection.
Which map layer is downloaded?
Only the currently selected base layer is cached; Roads by default. If you switch to Satellite view before downloading, the satellite tiles will be saved instead.
