Downloading your data

Downloading Your Data
mWater is a universal platform for collecting and managing data on water, sanitation, hygiene, health, and beyond. Any data you collect in mWater belongs to you and is always available for you to download. Data in mWater is collected on a single, shared server which allows for global scalability for hundreds of thousands of users and millions of surveys. This unlocks powerful capacities for users to choose to share key data such as basic details of water points with the wider world, whilst keeping detailed survey data strictly private. mWater makes use of the latest data security measures and all data access is governed by permissions that you can set on your data so that you can get the best of both privacy and shareability.

Read on to learn about the best ways to download and backup your data. Please also read our Terms of Service and Privacy Policy for more information on usage and sharing of data in mWater.

Taking a Full Backup

The easiest way to download a backup of all the site,  survey and asset data for an organization you are managing is to collect site and survey information via an Organization and then export everything at once from the organization's top branch. Organizations are the best way to manage data at scale in mWater. Once you have set up your organization and manage permissions appropriately, exporting all of your combined data is straightforward.

Steps:
You can navigate to your organization from the Manage tab, and if you are an admin of that organization you can choose to Download organization data from the Settings tab of the top node.

What you get:
- Data on all the sites Managed By the organization
- Data on all the survey responses which are part of any deployments set up through the organization structure
- Data as JSON of all the surveys linked to the organization including the system unique IDs for questions and responses

Downloading Survey and Site Data

You can download all the survey responses you have permissions to see by going to the survey in question and there selecting the Export Responses option in the Responses tab. What data you can see and export is determined by the permissions you have on the Deployments of that survey.
You can read more detailed guidance here.
Site data (water points, water systems, schools, health care facilities, etc.) can be downloaded directly from the Manage -> Sites page or through dashboard Tables or Datagrids.
In general, a very effective way to tailor what you want to download is to create a datagrid
With datagrids, you can shape the view of the data you want to download by filtering rows and selecting those columns you want to see. It's also possible to bring together linked site and survey data. For example, you can bring key information on a water point (name, GPS location, type) and information from a survey you have collected related to that water point all into one table. You can then download this table as CSV or XLSX, or even use the automatically generated API call to send data to your own system.
For more advanced use cases, please consult our API documentation.

Viewing Your Personal Data
