Exporting responses in mWater enables users to download
survey data in either CSV or Excel format for offline use or further analysis.
To export your data:
Select
a Survey: Navigate to the survey whose responses you wish to export.
Go
to the Responses Tab: Open the survey and locate the Responses
tab.
Under
the Responses tab, click on Export Responses.
Configure
Export Settings: A dialog box will appear. Adjust the settings to fit
your preferences, such as file format or specific data fields.

Data: Click the Export button to download the file.
This process is straightforward and simple on the mWater
platform.
Survey data export steps
Export Settings
Status-Allows
the user to export only the responses which have a specific status. By
default only Final responses will be selected.
Deployments-Allows
users to export only the responses which are part of a specific
Deployment. By default all deployments are selected.
Format
for re-importing-Allows users to export a CSV file which can then be
reimported exactly as the original data. This is useful when migrating
data from one deployment to another. The data can be exported from one
deployment, and imported into another deployment.
Header
Rows-Allows users to define whether they want the headers to be
labeled with the Export ID/Code, the Question Text, or Both. Some
questions have text that is difficult to display in an CSV or Excel so
some users choose to abbreviate this text with an Export ID or Code.
Choice
question-Allows users to define whether they want the values of choice
questions to be exported as the choice's Code or Text. Some question
choices have text that is difficult to display in a CSV or Excel so some
users choose to abbreviate this text with a Code.
Multichek
Questions-Allows users to define whether the selected choices of a
multicheck question will appear together in a single column or in separate
columns. If "Single column" is selected the selected choices
will be contained in the same cell separated by a comma. If "Separate
columns" is selected, a column will be created for each choice of the
multichek and will have a value "TRUE" if they were selected or
"FALSE" if they were not. This is especially important when
importing this data into other statistical software that may require a
column for each option.
Include
Asked Columns-This will insert a column for each question whether the
question was asked or not. This is especially important for surveys which
have complex conditions that make it difficult to understand whether a
question was left blank because it wasn't asked or because the enumerator
left it blank.
Repeat
Data in Rosters-Allows users to choose whether the survey data will be
repeated for each line in roster. If a survey contains roster questions
the exported data will contain a separate row for each row of a
roster. If "No" is selected, then the rows containing
roster data will leave the only contain data in the roster columns and be
blank for the rest of the columns. If "Yes" is selected, then
the rows containing roster data will also contain the data from the
survey. This means that data from the survey is repeated for every roster
row. Note: For large surveys with many responses, the
download time will be long.
Format-Allows
users to choose the format of the data export as either CSV or Excel.
Note: Use CSV for large downloads.
Exporting Site data
Site data can be exported from the Site page by:
Clicking
the Export button
Selecting
the option to Export the columns in the list or All Columns
By clicking the gear icon in the list, users can add any or
all columns.
exporting site data view
The easiest way to download a
backup of all the site, survey,
and asset data for an organization you manage is to collect site and survey
information via an Organization and then export everything at once
from the organization's top branch. Organizations are the best way to manage
data at scale in mWater. Once you have set up your organization and managed permissions appropriately,
exporting all of your combined data is straightforward. Read more here.
Exporting Photos.
Individual photos can be accessed
easily through the individual responses in the Portal. We also grant access to
the photo URLs as they are stored on our side so you can see them and also
export them, but it involves a few steps.

Exporting Mapped Data to KMZ
or KML Format
In mWater, while direct export to
KMZ or KML is not available, you can export your mapped survey data in formats
compatible with easy conversion. Here's how:
Create a Datagrid: Use mWater to generate a
datagrid of your mapped data.
Export as GeoJSON or Shapefile: Once the
datagrid is created, export it in either GeoJSON or Shapefile format.
Convert to KMZ or KML:
Open the exported file in software like QGIS,
which allows you to save the file directly as KMZ or KML.
Alternatively, use an online tool such as MyGeodata
Converter to perform the conversion.
Exporting Water Assets as
Shapefiles
To export water assets (e.g.,
pipelines) from mWater as shapefiles, follow these steps:
Create a Datagrid:
Navigate to the Datagrid creation tool and
select Water Assets as the data source.
Apply filters to narrow down the data to the
specific system(s) you are interested in.
Include the Location Column:
Ensure the Location column is included in
the datagrid setup. This column is essential for exporting spatial data.
Download the Datagrid:
Once the datagrid is prepared, proceed to download
it.
In the download options, select either Shapefile
or GeoJSON format.

Exporting Visualizations
In mWater, you can export
visualizations either as a complete dashboard or as individual widgets,
depending on your needs:
Exporting an Entire Dashboard
Download as PDF: To export the entire
dashboard, click the Download as PDF option.
Shareable Format: This will download the
dashboard as a PDF file, which can easily be shared with other
stakeholders.
Refer to Illustration 1 for guidance.
Exporting Individual Widgets
Access Widget Settings: To export a specific
widget, click the Settings icon (gear icon) located in the
top-right corner of the widget.
Choose Export Options:
For Tables and Datagrids: You’ll be prompted
to download the raw data in CSV format.
Illustration 2 shows this process.
For Charts: You can download each chart as
either an SVG or PNG file.
