Pipes in mWater allow you to easily track water pipes as part of asset management work. In both the mWater Surveyor app or the Portal, users can add pipes to water systems, keep track of key pipe properties, and include pipes in dashboards, datagrids, consoles, and maps. mWater makes it easy to import pipe data into the system, and also export it to EPANET, GeoJSON, and Shapefile formats.
Basics
1) Find or create a Water System
2) Go to the Piped Network View and add a Start Point and End Point
3) Click Create and the pipe will become part of the Water System
Pipes are designed to be very straightforward to add in mWater. Just go to, or create, a water system in the mWater Surveyor and start adding pipes in the Piped Network View.
Each water pipe segment must have a start point and an end point. These can be water points, or water installations, such as pumps, storage tanks, power sources, valves, junctions, etc. You can also add as many waypoints to the pipe as you like. You can optionally fill out properties of the pipe. These are covered below.
Once you click Create the pipe is added to the system. Pipes can be viewed in the Portal, and can be easily edited on the Water Systems page.
Using the app to create pipe segments
Pipe attributes
Pipe Material - PVC, PE, Cast iron, Galvanized steel, Galvanized iron, Ductile iron, Asbestos cement, PEX, Copper, Other
Pipe diameter - in mm or inches
Pipe type - Transmission, Primary, Secondary, Tertiary, Service
Installation date
You can fill in a number of properties for each pipe segment
You may optionally also enter the roughness coefficient of the pipe manually.
Note that pipes are considered Sites in mWater which means you can also create issues or surveys related to them.
Pipes in the Portal
The Water Systems page under the Manage tab is the main place to view and edit pipes within the mWater Portal.
Here you can add new water pipes and edit existing ones. You can also add and edit Water Points and Water Installations.
View and edit pipes on the Water System page
To add pipes you can select the +Add Water Pipe option from the Asset Inventory of the Water System. Here you need to enter the Pipe Type (Pipe, Valve, Pump), Start Point and End Point. Then you can enter waypoints by using the map interface. You can drag existing waypoints and create new ones by clicking the midpoint between two existing pipe points.
You can also enter pipe properties on this page.
To edit water pipes from the water system page, click the Water Links section and select the pipe you want to edit.
You can edit and add waypoints to pipes by clicking and dragging
Pipes in maps and dashboards
You can visualize and analyze collected Water System and Pipe data in mWater's maps, dashboards, datagrids and consoles.
To bring pipes to a map, simply select Pipe from the list of site options when creating a map layer.
You can then treat them like other sites and color individual segments on the basis of data, overlay them with other data, etc.
Note that you can compute the length of pipes by using the Length of line expression and selecting the Pipe GPS.
You can access Pipes as a standard data source for widgets in dashboards and consoles, as well as for column data in datagrids.

Imports and Exports
You can download an entire Water System from the Manage -> Water Systems page. Select Download System from the top right and then export the system to either EPANET, GeoJSON or Shapefile format.
