Why this matters

Most people meet the platform through one feature, usually a survey somebody sent them, and never discover that the same records feed maps, dashboards and indicators. Seeing the whole shape first saves a great deal of rework, because choices made while designing a survey decide what you are able to report on a year later.

How to do it

  1. Start with sites, since the registry of places is what everything else attaches to.
  2. Design a survey against those sites rather than collecting names as free text.
  3. Deploy it to the field and watch the responses arrive in the Portal.
  4. Report on the results with dashboards, and reuse indicators where a standard measure exists.
  5. Plan the reporting you will need before the survey is final, not after the data is in.
