There are no per-user fees, no data collection limits, no trial period. Governments, United Nations agencies, NGOs, service providers, researchers, businesses, and community-based organizations can register and begin using the platform without a contract or payment.
The platform has been developed and maintained since 2012 and is used in over 190 countries and territories.
Organizations that require capabilities beyond the free platform can engage mWater for additional services. Revenue from these services supports continued free access to the platform for all other users.
Four categories of service are available.
A dedicated monitoring information system for ministries, regulators, and multi-country programs. Scope typically includes indicator definition, data collection workflow design, dashboards, integration with existing government systems, and ongoing training and technical support.
Appropriate for national governments adopting mWater as an official sector monitoring system, and for multilateral programs requiring a managed deployment.
Cost is determined by the scope of the deployment.
A site framework that functions as an organization's hub for mWater activities. Features include page design and organization, content integration from the mWater Portal, public and private visibility controls, a custom subdomain (e.g. madagascar.mwater.co, unicef.mwater.co), visual styling, Google Analytics integration, and content translation. Additional custom pages can be developed on request.
Includes: the Light Blue website, permanent access to website management, 5 days of advanced support and consultation, and permanent priority support.
Cost: USD 50,000, one-time.
A tailored version of the Surveyor application, including custom branding, configurable home page tasks, control over visible site types and features, automated fields, site caching for offline use in low-connectivity settings, routing of problem reports to the organization's team, and full-resolution image storage.
Includes: up to 5 configurations per organization (which can be differentiated by country, grant, project, or thematic area), unlimited users per configuration, 3 days of consultation or training, and permanent access.
Organizations currently using custom configurations include WaterAid, World Vision, and Medair, among others.
Cost: USD 25,000, one-time.
Support for organizations designing new programs or responding to funding solicitations. Includes project scoping, sample statements of work, terms of reference, cost estimates, and delivery partnership. Paid training tiers and local consultant referrals are available in many countries.
Cost is determined by the scope of the engagement.
Is mWater free? Yes. The platform itself is free to use. The services listed above are optional and additional.
Is any paid service required to operate a program on mWater? No. Programs can be operated entirely on the free platform.
Can an organization begin with free access and add services later? Yes. This is the typical sequence.
